Root Canal Therapy

Comfortable Root Canal Therapy

An abscessed or broken tooth can be one of the most painful situations that you ever experience. When the nerve of a tooth becomes infected, the acute pain or swelling can cause throbbing, aches, or even infections that spread to other areas around the mouth. When this happens, it’s necessary to go in and treat the nerve chamber of the tooth to alleviate pain and prevent reinfection. The endodontic procedure that is most commonly used is a root canal.

Our Marco Island dentists might recommend a root canal if you are experiencing a(n):

  • Abscessed tooth
  • Severe toothache
  • Large cavity
  • Fractured tooth

What is a Root Canal?

During a root canal, the diseased portion of the tooth is removed, including the infected nerve tissues. Once the chamber is open, it’s cleaned, medicated, and sealed off with a material to prevent bacteria from re-entering the tooth.

Following a root canal, the non-vital tooth can be susceptible to wear or fractures. To protect it, a full coverage crown is placed over the entire tooth surface up to the gumlines. This allows you to continue biting and chewing normally, while maintaining dental health and aesthetics.

Our patients never have to leave the island for their treatment. With a highly experienced care team and access to the most advanced technology, our patients can enjoy a smooth process from start to finish.

Retreatments

If you’ve had a root canal that failed or the tooth becomes reinfected, most patients are sent to an endodontic specialist for a retreatment. At Marco Prime Dental, we implement 3D CT imaging technology that allows our dentist to better access and retreat the narrow chambers of a tooth that has already had a root canal performed.

Our Marco Island dentists are happy to provide a complimentary consultation or free 2nd opinion for new patients that have questions about whether or not they need to have a root canal. Nearly all insurance plans are accepted. Call today!
